Grand Rapids, MI (Sunday, July 29) – The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team’s Brad White (USA) took third place yesterday, Saturday, July 28, at the 2012 USA Cycling Professional Men’s Criterium Championship in Grand Rapids, Michigan. White, who lives in nearby Holland, Michigan, finished third in front of a “hometown” crowd, behind Jelly Belly’s Brad Huff (who captured second) and winner Ken Hanson of Optum presented by Kelly Benefits Strategies.
White and his teammates battled a very aggressive field en route to their podium placing performance. The pace throughout 66-lap, 1.2km downtown Grand Rapids course was fast and furious and the intensity continued to increase through the final laps. An enthusiastic crowd watched with great anticipation as to who would emerge victorious as America’s top criterium professionals raced feverishly to claim the coveted Stars-and-Stripes jersey.
Commenting on his podium result, White said, “The race went according to plan but at the end, it was crazy as usual. We got split up and I ended up sprinting. Jeff (Louder) led us through one to go and when I didn’t see Jake (Keough) behind me, I did my best trying to sprint. Everyone did a great job keeping the race together for a sprint.”
The Team heads to Illinois next for the 7th Annual Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove (August 2-5) then over to Utah for the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah (August 7-12) before racing at the Tour of Portugal (August 15-26). Team UnitedHealthcare closes out the month of August in the U.S. with the USA Pro Cycling Challenge (August 20-26).
