OAKLAND, CA – After wrapping up its first two races of the year (Tour de San Luis in Argentina and Etoile de Besseges in France), the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team will take to the start line once again on Thursday, February 14, in Portugal for the 39th edition of the Tour of Algarve. Following the conclusion of Algarve, the boys will make their third straight appearance in Malaysia for the 18th running of the highly acclaimed Le Tour de Langkawi, February 21 – March 2.

The four-stage Algarve and 10-stage Langkawi present a number of challenges for all participants, but with its focused mindset and teamwork mantra, the boys in the blue and white of Team UnitedHealthcare are excited to once again go head-to-head with the best in the sport.

 

Teamwork has been the key to the U.S. based Pro Continental squad’s success throughout the past two years and 2013 is proving to be no different. Having landed just outside the top 10 on several stages during last month’s Tour de San Luis and early February’s Etoile de Besseges, the eight new and 13 returning riders of the now 21 member strong unit are showing how important team chemistry is as they race toward their first podium of the season.

 

General Manager and Team Director, Mike Tamayo, said, “With the eight new faces joining us this year, it’s nice to have some new blood in the program. It goes a long way toward building a new Team chemistry. It’s a good group and you can see this Team sticks together. They race hard for one another and we were pleased with how well the boys came together in San Luis and Besseges. While we did not accomplish our goal of landing on the podium in the first two races of the year, what we gained from racing and coming together as a team this early in the season was worth more than getting a lucky podium result and we’re looking forward to the next couple of weeks in Algarve and Langkawi.”
