Mara Abbott Extends Gila Lead by Powering onto Time Trial Podium, Teamwork Helps de Maar Retain KOM Jersey in Turkey
Mara Abbott continued her success in the 2014 Tour of the Gila today with a podium performance in today’s Dan Potts Memorial Tyrone Time Trial. Third on the day, Abbott was the best-placed rider for UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team with teammate Alison Powers just behind her in 4th place and the remaining Blue Train riders inside the top 20. With this outstanding performance, Abbott extends her race lead to 2 minutes and 15 seconds while the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team remains first in the team classification. Ben Day earned another top-ten result for the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, finishing the time trial 10th on the day.
Marc de Maar held onto the King of the Mountains Jersey in stage 6 of the Presidential Tour of Turkey, thanks to the solid teamwork by the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team. The men of the Blue Train worked hard to reel in a breakaway, allowing de Maar to pick up maximum points on the intermediate KOM competition. Teammate Davide Frattini went with de Maar on his summit raid, earning second on the KOM competition and moving himself into second place in the climbing category. The race in Turkey continues for two more stages.
