Tour of California Stage 7 Update
Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California took the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team on a high desert route from Santa Clarita to Pasadena with KOM points available at the summits of the Millcreek and Upper Big Tujunga, before descending into Pasadena for a 3-lap finishing circuit. Flurries of attacks started immediately outside of Santa Clarita, all of them quickly shut down until UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team rider Isaac Bolivar initiated the breakaway of the day with 115 kilometers left in the race. Isaac and his 6 companions led the race for the majority of the stage, with Isaac sprinting to win the second KOM competition. Bolivar returned to the peloton at around 17 kilometers from the finish, after which the men of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team began to move into position for the final sprint, with Lucas Euser and Chris Jones taking turns at the front of the group. The last breakaway riders were caught in the finishing circuits, queuing the race for a bunch sprint finale on the streets of downtown Pasadena. Kiel Reijnen was now in position to finish the day for the UnitedHealthcare team, sprinting to 9th place against some of the world’s fastest teams.
