Team Heads to Richmond, VA for UCI World Championship Team Time Trial
The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team is thrilled to line up on home soil for the Team Time Trial event of the UCI World Road and Time Trial Championships, held in Richmond, Virginia on September 20th, 2015. The Team Time Trial is a unique event in the world of cycling, as it is contested by trade teams, rather than national squads. The opportunity for the riders of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team to race with their teammates in front of a home crowd is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many.
Reintroduced to Road World Championships in 2012, the Team Time Trial is a favorite for fans and a major goal for teams, as it requires equal parts strength, stamina, focus, and coordination among teammates. The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling squads have recently completed an intense training block in the team’s home of nearby Asheville, North Carolina, where they dialed in strategy, equipment, and fitness for the challenging event.
Course overview, courtesy of Richmond2015.com:
Teams will begin the 38.8-kilometer course in Henrico County at beautiful Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. The opening kilometers race through Richmond’s historic Northside neighborhoods leading into downtown.
The first few kilometers are scenic, flat, open roads that eventually narrow and wind through Richmond National Battlefield Park, a historic Civil War site. The race re-enters the city through Shockoe Bottom, eventually making a hard right turn on Governor Street to ascend 300 meters. At the top, teams take a sharp left turn onto the false-flat finishing straight, 680 meters to the finish.
With a chance to compete in the United States of America against the strongest riders in the world, the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team will be fielding its own squad of strong and talented riders, each in peak condition for the race after successful campaigns at last month’s Tour of Utah and USA Pro Challenge.
