Katie Hall takes 2nd in San Luis Stage 4 Time Trial, Moves into 5th Overall
Validating her strong lead in the Mountains Classification, Katie Hall rode an impressive individual time trial on Stage 4 of the Tour Femenino de San Luis to finish second on the stage. With just two mountainous days of racing left in Central Argentina, the talented climber on the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team now sits in 5th place on the General Classification.
The stage 4 time trial followed a flat out-and-back route over 12.8 km, starting and finishing in El Durazno. Hall finished on the second step of the podium, just 43 seconds down on stage winner and current General Classification leader Lauren Stephens.
Moving up several positions, Hall now sits just over one minute behind the Stephens on the General Classification. With the Polka Dot jersey remaining the primary focus, Hall will look to the climbs in the later half of the race to defend her current six-point lead.
Thursday’s Stage 5 is a hilly 97.4-km route that kicks up to finish on the slopes of the Potrero de los Funes at an elevation of 1250m. With little to break up the peloton on the long approach to the climb, Katie Hall will look to her UnitedHealthcare Blue Train teammates to keep her protected throughout the day and position her for the final climb. The squad in Argentina has been reduced to just 4 riders; Coryn Rivera, Katie Hall, Iris Slappendel and Diana Penuela, after Annie Ewart and Abby Mickey both fell ill and were forced to withdraw from the race on stage 3. Despite the reduced roster, morale remain high as the entire program rallies around the four riders in the final stages.
