2017 marked the 31st annual Tour of the Gila, a race that never disappoints and this year was no different. The men’s team wrapped up the with Travis McCAbe taking the sprint points jersey, a top-10 overall on General Classification, plus podium finishes on four of the five stages. The women’s team had another stellar week of racing, two stage wins, podiums on four of the stages, a podium sweep on the final day, plus going home with the overall win, best young rider, and queen of the mountains jerseys.
There were some changes to the race course this year, the removal of the mountain finish atop Mogollon changed the tactics of the week. However, the change-up meant that tactics and plans were reconfigured, putting different riders into play.
The team rode well today, Henderson and Clarke worked hard to make sure everyone arrived in the last 5kms ready to fight. As we approached the finish Jaramillo was set up in a good position and won the sprint from the small group for second.

I’m happy to take the win today for the team. We had a great tactical plan today. Lauren, Lauretta, and Diana made it hard going into the final hill. I attacked with 5 km to go, knowing that if I got caught early Tayler was ready to attack and if came down to sprint, Ruth would win. We’re in a great place now for GC with 3 of us in the top 10.

Tour of the Gila is always an exciting spring event for us, and we are proud of the work we put in this year. Both men and women’s teams proved they came out to race, and hammered every day. We head to the Redland’s classic next, and then on to Tour of California.
