Tour of the Gila Daily: Haedo sprints to second, Hall third in downtown criterium
SILVER CITY, N.M. – Another day, another podium at the Tour of the Gila. This time it was Sebastian Haedo and Lauren Hall who graced the steps of the podium with a second and third place in their respective races.
Hall retains leader’s jersey into final stage of Tour of the Gila
Katie Hall raced a smart criterium to stay in the overall lead, gaining one second over second place Sara Poidovin (Rally) during a time bonus sprint. Hall now has eight seconds advantage over Poidovin going into the final stage.
“The goal for the day was to ensure we kept the jersey keep Sara Poidovin from gaining any time on Katie in the intermediate sprints,” team director Rachel Hedderman said. “We were happy for a break, but Rally was keeping the field together and no break got more than a few meters off the front.”
In the men’s 40 lap, 45 mile criterium, there was some hard racing, but every team was interested in a field sprint.
“Jonny Clarke did an awesome job covering moves and making sure we were represented but nothing dangerous happened,” team director Seba Alexandre said.
Janier Acevedo did a fine job setting up Haedo in a good spot for final lap, which he carried to the line for an impressive second place.
