Tvetcov claims third overall, points jersey at Tour de Beauce
QUEBEC – After five hard days of racing, Serghei Tvetcov and the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team came away with third place overall and the points jersey at the 32nd edition of the prestigious Canadian UCI stage race, Tour de Beauce (2.2).
Romanian champion wins stage 3 time trial
The race wasn’t without its highs and lows. Tvetcov charged into the yellow jersey after winning the 19.4 kilometer time trial on the third stage, but faltered the next day, dropping to third place after finishing a close 27 seconds down on the leader.
“It was disappointing to lose the yellow jersey on the second to last day, but I’m happy with my form and the points jersey is of some consolation,” Tvetcov said. “The team worked very hard for me and did everything they could.”
“It was a great ride by Tvetcov, he won the time trial with 15 seconds over the Canadian time trial specialist Svein Tuft,” team director Hendrik Redant said. “This move was also enough to take the yellow jersey. We also saw a great ride of Gavin Mannion who was fifth in the time trial.”
The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling men and women’s U.S. contingent will be starting their national championships this weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee starting June 21 with the U.S Pro Time Trial and culminating with the national road race on June 24.
