Tvetcov in yellow at Tour de Beauce
QUEBEC – Serghei Tvetcov crushed the competition at the Tour de Beauce individual time trial, winning the morning stage and taking over the yellow jersey ahead of Adam Roberge by 20 seconds heading into tomorrow’s 70 kilometer criterium.
“It was a great ride by Serghei Tvetcov,” Hendrik Redant said. “He wins the time trial by 15 seconds over the Canadian TT specialist Svein Tuft. His move was also enough to take the yellow jersey. We also saw a great ride of Gavin Mannion who was 5th in the TT.”
After locking in the yellow jersey in the early time trial, the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team took the start for the afternoon 77-kilometer stage.
“Our team controlled the whole race, and only let two riders escape that were not dangerous for the general classification,” Redant said. “In the last 15 km we brought up the speed to make sure Serghei was in an ideal position to start the last climb to the finish. The two riders stayed in the front with six seconds on three riders: Serghei Tvetcov, Gavin Mannion and Rui Oliveira.”
At the end of the stage, Oliveira managed to get third place, Mannion took fourth and Tvetcov fifth.
Heading into tomorrow’s criterium, Tvetcov maintains his 20 second lead in the overall classification, 20 seconds ahead of Roberge and one minute and six seconds.
